Stone Lore and Legend of Rhodonite: Rhodonite gets it’s name from the Greek word rhodon, meaning rose colored. Rhodonite was first discovered in Russia in the 1790s in the Ural Mountains. The people in the local village believed that the eagles in the area carried pieces of Rhodonite to their nests, so they began adding the stone to their babies cribs, spo their children would grow up as free and strong as the great eagle. Later, it became customary to give Rhodonite to travelers as a protective stone. It was believed to make the travelers heart beat faster if danger was approaching. How fitting then, that Rhodonite inlay was used to decorate the Moscow Metro, built between 1935 and 1938.
